The Azores archipelago
has become a more popular destination for European birdwatchers
in recent years. The main attractions are the endemic Azores
Bullfinch, the "Priôlo", a good chance to see
a great variety of Nearctic waders, and productive sea watching.
As isolated islands far out in the sea, the numbers of vagrants
are never high, but have proven to consist of an exciting mixture
of birds from east and west. Here there are good opportunities
to find one or two vagrants very rare anywhere in the Western
Palearctic.
The Azores offers a breath-taking landscape,
interesting history and culture, and for those interested good
chances to spot whales and dolphins. In other words, a perfect
destination for a combined holiday!
Birding Azores provides you
with all you need to know about bird watching in the Azores;
latest news, detailed information about all bird species, where
to watch birds, and much more
